Testimony

Juan Marcos: My mother and my brother were instrumental in my coming to Christ. When I was 5 years old, my older brother had recently accepted Christ and told me about what Jesus had done for Him. One night, we lay awake in our bunk beds, and I listened to him talk about this. Getting up out of bed, I hurried to the kitchen to find my mom. I recounted what my brother had been saying, and I told her that I wanted to accept Jesus and go to heaven with Him, too. We knelt down together at a chair in that eat-in kitchen, and my mom led me in prayer to receive Christ as my Savior.

Raquel Jean: I grew up in El Salvador, a missionary kid and a pastor’s kid. By the age of 13, I was a Sunday school teacher of 4-year-olds. I translated for short-term teams from the US. I participated in all the activities and studies. As an adolescent, I began to develop my own definition of how I wanted to live my life. This went against my parents and their hopes for me. One night, after a complicated and rebellious day, I returned home, on my own, at 1am. I was 15. The next morning, a Sunday, after a rebuke from my worried parents, we went to the morning church service. I sat in the front row with my mom, and my dad translated for the guest speaker. As I listened to him preach, twice (once in English and then the Spanish translation), my eyes were open to the reality of my life. The preacher said, “When we are children of God, we fall into sin, and Holy Spirit living in us calls us back to Himself. We repent and return to full communion with God. When we are not His children, we see sin, run to it, and stay in it.” I was shocked. I knew exactly which one I was. That day, in front of 1,200+ church members and guests, in the church my dad pastored, I stood up and surrendered my life to Jesus. I wanted to experience life in Christ. I wanted freedom from my sin. The next Sunday, I was baptized, and a new life began. It was hard to allow God to reshape my life, my actions, and my choices. He patiently worked with me until I was 19, when I was confronted again by the results of my sinfulness. But I can confidently say, that after that morning, at the age of 15, I no longer ran to sin, I fell into it, and Holy Spirit gently called me back into fellowship. I am so glad that He continues to work in me still.

Ministry

We love missionaries’ souls. The vision of our heart is to see people in full-time ministry thrive in all aspects of their lives so that they can more faithfully share the Life-From-Above that we have in Jesus Christ. Based out of Birmingham, AL, we serve missionaries from the World Reach headquarters and travel to various fields to minister alongside them in leadership training and church planting. Our aim is to deepen and broaden the faithfulness and fruitfulness of our missionaries.

Favorite Scripture

Juan Marcos:

“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” ~ 1 Timothy 1:5

Raquel Jean:

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.” ~ Isaiah 61:1-3

About Us

What are some of your Hobbies?

Juan: I am a trail runner. I thrive on the refreshing that comes from time with God, time alone, and time with others during all those miles in the woods. On a whim, I recently started making hand-made pasta from scratch, and I am finding enjoyment in the kneading, rolling, and cutting. Not to mention the eating! That’s my favorite part of the whole process.

Raquel: I love to cook. It is my creative expression, and I love to share my meals with others. I am not afraid to make a meal I have never made before and serve it to my guests.

What is an adventure you would like to go on?

Juan: Some day, I would love to spend time in Israel and Turkey to visit historical and archeological sites that we read about in the New Testament. It seems to me that would bring a new perspective after walking in those places and seeing them with my own eyes.

Raquel: I love adventures! I love to travel, meet new people, and go down a road even when I am uncertain where it will lead. If you’re ever looking for a travel buddy, no matter where that plane, train or car will take us, I’m up for that!

Who from the Bible would you like to meet in Heaven?

Juan: I want to talk with Barnabas. I would ask him about insights from his interactions with Paul, John Mark, and the other apostles. His more detailed stories (than what we know from the book of Acts) about their journeys to plant and strengthen churches – I think I could listen to him talk about those for hours and hours!

Raquel: The woman at the well who had an encounter with Jesus in John 4. She did not half-heartedly respond to Jesus when He was reaching out to her. She spoke her mind, and He loved her, heard her, and desired that she would find freedom in Him.
